CONFLICT MINERALS
Providing our customers with the information needed for SEC filings while making a difference combating inhumane mining practices
Our Commitment
Infinite Electronics supports the humanitarian goal of ending the armed conflicts in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and its adjoining countries which are partially financed by the exploitation of miners and local populations. Although we are not required to submit a formal filing to the US Securities and Exchange Commission because we are not a publicly traded company, we know that many of our customers do require Conflict Minerals Reporting Templates (CMRTs) to compile their own filings. We are committed to obtaining all available data on the smelters within our supply chain and working with our suppliers to eliminate the use of high-risk smelters when their usage has surfaced.
What are Conflict Minerals?
The term “conflict minerals” is defined as columbite-tantalite, also known as coltan (from which tantalum is derived); cassiterite (tin); gold; wolframite (tungsten); or their derivatives; or any other mineral or its derivatives determined by the Secretary of State to be financing conflict in the Democratic Republic of the Congo or an adjoining country. In 2010, President Obama signed the Dodd-Frank Consumer Protection Act into law. Section 1502 of that act addresses the international trade and use of Conflict Minerals. But what are these Minerals and how do they affect our everyday lives? Like the similar issue of Conflict Diamonds or Blood Diamonds, the term Conflict Minerals refers to raw materials that come from a particular part of the world where conflict is occurring and affects the mining and trading of those materials.
